Breast Enhancement Surgery encompasses a wide range of procedures. The most common breast enhancing surgery is Breast Augmentation, but below is a partial list of many other common breast surgeries.
Types of Breast Enhancement Surgery
Here are several of the more common breast enhancing Cosmetic Plastic Surgery procedures:
- Breast Augmentation
- Breast Lift
- Breast Reduction
- Breast Augmentation Revision
- Breast Implant Removal
- Areola Reduction
- Inverted Nipple Correction
- Nipple Reduction
Breast Augmentation
The most common Breast Enhancement is Enlargement of the Breasts with Breast Implants. Breast Implants provide a safe and effective means of breast enlargement. Unlike fat grafting to the breasts, Breast Implants provide a predictable volume of augmentation. Today’s “gummy bear” breast implants are soft solids. In the US, gel migration from leaking silicone gel implants has not been seen since the conversion to highly cohesive implants in 1994. That is not to say that breast implants can’t fail or that they don’t require maintenance in order to maintain results.
Fat Grafting to the Breasts has emerged as a “new” way to do Breast Augmentation, but it is not new. Breast Implants were invented because fat grafting is less predictable and provides inadequate augmentation for most patients’ needs. Fat Grafting can be helpful in very specific cases, and should be evaluated on an individual basis with a qualified Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Breast Lift
Breast Lifts can be performed on their own or with a Breast Implant, depending on the shape and volume of the breasts. If you are happy with the volume of your breasts, and are satisfied when they are supported by a bra, a breast lift or Mastopexy will help. If the bra gaps at the top, an implant can help fill in the gap.
The patient above was happy with her breasts’ size, just not their location. Her breasts were lifted off the abdomen and placed back onto the chest with a Mastopexy. It is also possible to increase the breast volume with an implant as shown above, or to decrease the breast volume as is demonstrated next.
Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction is used when the breasts are too large, especially when they are associated with symptoms such as neck pain, back pain and shoulder rutting. Breast reduction includes a breast lift. The procedure both reduces the volume of the breast and lifts them to reduce the torque they exert on the back, neck and shoulders, thus decreasing symptoms that can limit activity.
The patient above complained of persistent pain in her lower neck and upper back, a well as painful shoulder rutting from her bra straps. A Reduction Mammoplasty was performed to reduce the volume of her breasts and lift them. The result was almost immediate relief from her back pain and the ability to return to a more active lifestyle.
