Earlier this month we discussed Male Breast Reduction Surgery. This week the focus is on Female Breast Reduction Surgery.
Breast Reduction, Firming and Lifting
Reduction Mammoplasty, the medical term for Breast Reduction Surgery, is more than just making breasts smaller. Removing excess breast tissue is paramount; however, firming and lifting are also part of the procedure.

The above Breast Reduction Before and After Pictures show the change from large, heavy breasts to perky, firm smaller breasts. The reduction removes excess torque from the neck and back, usually curing the chronic pain associated with large, pendulous breasts.
Patients suffering from chronic lower neck and upper back pain, rashes under the breasts and shoulder rutting from the weight of large breasts benefit from reduced breast volume and weight. In addition, a Breast Lift is included to firm the breasts, further reducing torque on the neck and spine.
Addressing Asymmetry With Breast Reduction
Plastic Surgery is technical, hands-on and artistic labor. This allows the results of Breast Reduction to be tailored to not just each woman, but to each breast. If one breast is larger than the other, it can be reduced accordingly to improve overall symmetry and the aesthetic proportions of the breasts.

Breast Reduction addresses asymmetry. The bigger side is reduced more and lifted more to improve symmetry as well as relieve neck and back pain.
Breast Reduction by Breast Implant Removal
I have many patients who had small breasts in their teens and twenties and came to me for Breast Augmentation. The result was a happy patient with more feminine curves and proportions that fit well in clothing.

Sometimes Breast Reduction means Breast Implant Removal. These Before and After Pictures show the changes obtained from removing breast implants without a lift. Breast Reduction always includes a lift, while with breast implant removal it is not always necessary.
The body changes with time. As we age, have children, gain or loose weight, the breast may also change. Some of my Breast Implant patients have returned decades later with breasts that have enlarged. For these patients, Breast Implant Removal may be the answer.
