For patients unhappy with their deflated, saggy breasts, Breast Augmentation is a common remedy. There are times, however, when Breast Enlargement alone may not produce the desired end result – perky, youthful breasts. If the nipple is low, or the majority of the breast hangs below the inframammary fold (IMF), a Breast Lift can be added to the augmentation procedure, to create breasts which are not just bigger, but are also shaped better.
The procedure combining Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift is termed Mastopexy Augmentation. Mastopexy is just another word for breast lift, and Augmentation identifies it as a lift which also enlarges the breasts.
Mastopexy Augmentation is the combination of two operations working together to improve breast aesthetics. Breast Augmentation makes breasts larger, while the Breast Lift creates a more aesthetically pleasing shape. For optimal results, adjusting both the size and the shape of the breast is sometimes necessary.
Breast Augmentation Lift Mommy Makeover
The patient above had Mastopexy Augmentation and a Tummy Tuck, also known as a Mommy Makeover. She wanted larger breasts, but her nipples were pointing south. Breast Augmentation would have increased the size of her breasts; however, her nipples would have remained at the bottom of her breasts. A Breast Lift alone would have corrected the nipple position, but would have also left her with smaller breasts than she desired. While some plastic surgeons might recommend separating the Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift into two operations, the combination can often be safely combined into one operation with a single recovery period
Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Without Augmentation
The patient above had an Inverted-T Breast Lift, with the anchor scar. No Breast Implant was used, but her breast shape and projection were improved with the Breast Lift. Before surgery, she was happy with the size of her breasts, but not with the shape. Her breasts appeared elongated and saggy, and her nipples were well below her inframammary fold (IMF).
After the Breast Lift, the nipples are positioned higher on the breast mound, the breast mound has been tailored to provide youthful projection. Additionally, her areolae were reduced in size, a common request after pregnancy. After the Mastopexy, her breasts have transformed from matronly to perky.
Breast Augmentation Without A Lift (No Mastopexy)
Sometimes a little volume is all that is needed to improve breast aesthetics. In this case, the breasts have involuted after pregnancy. The edges of the breast mounds were curled up around the sunken-in nipples. This patient just wanted her breasts back to her pre-pregnancy shape. Her nipples were naturally low on her breast, and she was okay with it.
In this case, Breast Augmentation with Breast Implants was all that was needed to give this patient back her body. An incision was made beneath the breast to allow for sub muscular placement of smooth, round silicone gel filled Gummy Bear Breast Implants. The result is her breasts are restored to proportions that fit well in clothing and bathing suits.
Breast Augmentation & Breast Lift Consultations
The examples above were chosen to illustrate specific details of Breast Augmentation, Mastopexy (Breast Lift) and the combination Mastopexy Augmentation; however, they are no substitute for an in-person consultation with a qualified and experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. The decision of whether to undergo any of these procedures is personal, and should be thoroughly discussed prior to deciding to have surgery.
