Breast Augmentation remains the most popular elective cosmetic plastic surgery procedure and has one of the highest patient satisfaction ratings. The ability to provide additional breast volume, or restore lost volume, is an important aspect of my practice as a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
But even good things do not always last forever. Short of deflation, breast implants maintain their original volume; however, the same cannot be said for natural breast tissue. Breasts change size and shape with pregnancy, fluctuations in weight or even normal aging. As a result, sometimes breasts become larger than desired, and a smaller breast implant is more suitable to maintain aesthetic body proportions.
Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction is another procedure with high patient satisfaction. By reducing the size, weight, and length of the beasts, the procedure can be back saving. For the appropriate patients, chronic neck and back pain improve immediately after breast reduction surgery.
During Breast Reduction or Reduction Mammoplasty breast tissue is removed and a Breast Lift (Mastopexy) is performed. Patient comfort is provided by the reduced weight and torque of higher breasts. After reduction, the breasts are firmer, lighter, and move with the chest.
Breast Implant Reduction
Breast Implant Reduction is similar to Reduction Mammoplasty. With breast implant exchange surgery, the size and weight of the breast implants are reduced. If a significant amount of reduction is desired, a Breast Lift may also be recommended to achieve an aesthetic bust line. This is more likely if the breasts are sagging before implant size reduction, or when the implants are disproportionately large for the breasts.
Breast Implant Removal
In some cases, Breast Implant Removal is sufficient to achieve the desired cup size. If the natural breast tissue is firm, no additional surgery is required. However, if the breasts are saggy, a breast lift may be recommended.
