Neck Lifts tighten loose neck skin and improve jaw line definition. They are often part of a Rhytidectomy, a procedure that tightens the face below the eyes down to the neck.
Neck Lift or Facelift
I am often asked the difference between a Neck Lift and a Face Lift. Both procedures share the same incision and are used to rejuvenate the face and neck. The generic term for the face and neck lift is Rhytidectomy, a term that literally means wrinkle removal.
Neck Lift and Facelift
It is rare that a Rhytidectomy purely addresses only the neck or face. When it comes to aging, there is a lot of overlap between the neck and face. So Neck Lifts frequently address the face, and Facelifts usually address the neck. Because of this I usually use the term Rhytidectomy to address rejuvenation of both areas. Using the term Neck Lift or Facelift highlights the area of greatest concern; however, having a fresh face next to a wrinkled neck is not desirable. Proportionate aging, i.e. keeping different areas looking like they are aging slowly together is a better goal.
Neck Lift Consultations
Rhytidectomies (Neck Lifts and Facelifts) are one of my favorite procedures. They remain one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for people over 50. The Rhytidectomy is an outpatient procedure; however, patients are checked the next morning after surgery and an overnight stay is often desirable, especially if you are traveling to the SF Bay Area for your procedure.
